Which group of 650 Tax Payer Funded Parasites enjoy - 19 restaurants - Nine bars and 1 coffee shop...
TAXPAYERS FORK OUT £5.8M FOR MPS’ FOOD BILLS...
Figures yesterday revealed that the subsidy shot up by £87,000
The taxpayer-funded subsidy which enables MPs to enjoy cheap meals, wines and spirits in the Commons has soared to £5.8million a year.
Figures yesterday revealed that the subsidy shot up by £87,000, despite promises by parliamentary officials to scale back perks for politicians’ meals and drinks.
In June 2010 the Commons Commission said £500,000 should be lopped off catering costs, and bar prices should rise to those of high street pubs as part of a £12million budget cut.
But in the Members’ Dining Room, MPs enjoy artichoke and tomato salad with truffle dressing for £2.05, or breast of pigeon with aubergine puree and spiced couscous for £4.15.
A goat’s cheese, pea and broad bean risotto costs £2.40, while MPs choosing a chargrilled rib-eye steak with hand-cut chips and bearnaise sauce pay £7.80.
For pudding, they can enjoy a white chocolate brulee for £2.05. At Moncrieff’s restaurant, members can enjoy a roasted half spring chicken for £2.95. In the Pugin Room bar, a glass of malt whisky or Cointreau costs £2.55, or, for wine lovers, a Merlot is £2.35.
A total of £1.33million was spent in the Commons bars in the year ending 31 March 2011, the figures show.
Sales in Parliament’s 19 restaurants, nine bars and one coffee shop fell eight per cent to £7.5million in the financial year 2010/11. This means for every £10 an MP spent on lunch, the public contributed £7.60. The year before, the public contributed £6.90.
John O’Connell, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers were told that subsidies like this were on their way out, but unbelievably the cost has increased.
“Generous subsidies like these are not the everyday reality for ordinary families under pressure and they shouldn’t be for politicians.”

Below is an extract of a letter sent to the Chair of the planning committee. Councillor Barry Oddy..
So getting back to the moral issues, I cannot believe you would turn your back on all those people who acted faithfully, who posted their objections, who went to so many meetings, who struggled at every opportunity to inform you of their fears. These people tried so hard to make you understand, even begged you to abort the application. Old men and ladies who struggle to walk, made a determined effort to get their voices heard, to be noticed, and all of this was without proper resident consultation. Not a single cabinet member wanted to listen, not a single cabinet member showed the slightest degree of empathy or concern. The people of my community are victims, mugged by the very persons paid to protect them. This is robbery on a grand scale... I don't pay you my council tax so that you can finance the destruction of my community. I don't pay you my council tax so that you can behave in such a contemptible manner. You have a primary responsibility to the people of this community, every community, and those responsibilities should come before request from the administration.
To the 7 Conservative members of the Regulatory Services Planning Committee... You are not only a total disgrace as councillors... You are a complete and utter disgrace as human beings...

This is by an awful long way the most important issue on this site. Whilst Havering Council are writing out cheques for tens of thousands of pounds for iPads and entertainment venues. This is what we are receiving on the "Angry Forum"...
We would also like to add that we were informed by Councillor Michael White that the sum of £150,000 has been spent on a new council web site...

My son goes to Corbets Tey School and will also be assessed to meet at a cluster point. I spoke to the company who are going to carry out the assessments today and they are waiting for instructions from the Council before they can start. This will take another week I was informed. The Council want the cluster points to start from September but exactly how do they propose to arrange for the company to carry out the assessments, feedback to the Council, decide where the cluster points are going to be, inform parents and give us time to appeal or contact the Council with our concerns all within the space of 7 weeks. Will we receive letters a couple of days before the return to school leaving us no option but to either keep our kids at home or try to get to the cluster point?
Good timing on the part of the Council and why the sudden rush to complete in 7 weeks? Also Paul Rochford stated at the Ask the Cabinet meeting that anyone who had difficulties taking their child to a meeting point would continue to receive home/school transport. As that applies to most of the kids at the two schools just how does he propose to save £600k?
The minimum fare for the taxicard has risen from £1.50 to £2.50 and double swiping has been stopped which means that you can only travel for a journey total costing £11 instead of £22 (approx) before you have to pay the balance of the fare. This equates to the distance between Romford Station and Collier Row roundabout on a good day. Although minicabs are cheaper, those in wheelchairs are unable to use them so are forced to use the more expensive black cabs and pay the extra cost. Thanks Council.

I would like all the councillors involved in this ridiculous proposal to wake up and enter the real world, or should I say the real world of people like myself, a mother of a disabled child. DO NOT make our lives and more difficult than they are. Find another way of saving money, there are surely so many to choose from (I can think of many)!! Keep the transport for our children as it is, target the
unnecessary spending in Havering and leave us alone.

Re: Havering Council Cuts School Transport For Vulnerable Children.
I’m one of the parents to a child that has the bus service that picks up my child and drops him off i also have another child and don’t drive so to get to the pick up point will be a night mare and means i will have to get my kids up even earlier which could affect my child’s condition, its disgusting they are even considering doing this if they want to save money they should cut back on the expenses they claim etc and shouldn’t be getting ipads.

Re: Havering Council Cuts School Transport For Vulnerable Children.
I myself have a son who goes to Corbets Tey and truth be told found it a very hard thing to let my son go on the bus when he first started reception!! But as i have two other children who go to mainstream i had no way of splitting myself so they would all be at sch on time. The other reason i found it so hard for my son to go as his speech is very poor so would not be able to understand if he needed to tell me something that had happened at sch or on the bus coming home if we are all picking our children up at one spot we will not have that one to one time with the escort as they are the one who has been with them the whole time, to tell us if the teacher wanted us to know something or how its been on the bus..
my other concern is this, it will mean a lot of children with alot of different needs will all be standing in a crowded area come rain, snow or what ever else our weather throws our way, But when it is one child getting on the bus of course is much easier to wait in your house till it arrives so the child don’t get wet. my son has severe asthma and him getting wet is a big deal.
like been said before many children would find this whole thing very distressing and then can cause more danger than it would when puttting one child on the bus at a time.
As for all children they sometimes get unwell but having my other children sch on the doorstep i can always ask for there friends parents to pick them up, but with my son without the door to door pick up i would have to take my son and my unwell child out to the pick up point.
There is so many reasons this is so unfair no we never wanted our children to be differant. but in our ways we have accepted that they are, and i tell you why these children are called special needs because they are the most speacil children i you will ever find and yes we would loved to be able to do everything on our own for our kids but at times you have to hold your hand up and say YES I DO NEED HELP! we did this with the council trusting them to take our kids safely to sch and now what a kick in the teeth to be so let down by them.. From a caring concerned mum x.

Re: Havering Council Cuts School Transport For Vulnerable Children.
Is there anything Havering won’t try and take away from us? We are now battling to save my sons school bus from being prevented from picking him up from home anymore. This is such a necessary service to families with a disabled child, and its so important for their safety, can you imagine 20 children meeting in a 'safe' place, autistic children are likely to run at will, children with epilepsy are likely to have a seizure at any time, children with continence issues might need changing, are we supposed to stand in the rain at a bus stop with spaces for 20 cars for goodness sake? How will that be safe at all??
I know they need to make savings but can they not cut the buerocracy and red tape and endless assessments rather than the frontline services they currently offer? I feel like everything is such a battle at the moment, petitions, council meetings, phone calls, emails etc etc, what a horrible time !!! Lets hope these morons see sense grrrr x
Just borrowing this from the Corbets Tey page: I have a great idea....take a pay cut MPs and stop fiddling your expenses!!!!!! Oh and another thing, I hope you councillors all have fun with the ipads you got for Christmas as gifts from Havering Council, enjoy them while we have no school buses and no ice rink due to council cut backs RANT RANT grrrr

Re: Havering Council Cuts School Transport For Vulnerable Children.
Plus there is the issue of our apparently amazing ability to be in 2 places at the same time!!!! Wow, we are now supposed to be able to drop our other children off at the local primary school, whilst being at a cluster point getting our disabled child on the school bus, which presumably could be a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction!!!!! Our children are yet again being targeted for cuts. It is a disgrace.

Re: Havering Council Cuts School Transport For Vulnerable Children.
I cannot believe that Havering Council could consider, let alone agree, to these cuts.
My grandson attends Corbets Tey School, and the school bus is an absolute essential need. He is nine years of age, and the eldest of three. He is picked up about 8.00 am and dropped off back home about 4.00 pm. My daughter in Law can then make sure my other grandson and grand daughter arrive at school/nursery on time. Which are at different locations. How can she possibly cope taking all three out and walking all three to a cluster point so that my grandson can get on his bus, then rushing the other two back to walk them to different locations. And all this at a very early hour which will upset the children for the rest of the day - and repeated at the end of the day.
All all because the council has made the decision that this is the best area in order to make cuts.
My son works away from home five days a week. He has to work to provide for them. So there really is nobody else to look after the other two children whilst she goes to the bus. They are now at their witts end with worry. How can they possibly get their son to the cluster point. Will he be safe. Will he accept it. Will he actually get on the bus without any fuss. Will this have long term effect on his school work. He likes order - no change. As anybody with children with special needs will understand, emotionally the family are under great
stress and this is an additional worry brought to them by their uncaring council.
Hang your heads in shame.
It's a measure of society how the most vulnerable in society are treated. Judge for yourself the yardstick Havering Council have used for their measure.

Re: Havering Council Cuts School Transport For Vulnerable Children.
I also have a child that attends Corbets Tey School and I am disgusted that the Council are making cuts to our childrens school transport.
I also have two other younger children, so it would be impossible for me to make 3 different journeys as they attend other schools/ nurseries.
All of our children have different complex needs, thats why they are attending this school. We would dearly love for them to go to their local schools, but that cannot be, because of their needs.
My mornings are chaotic enough getting three children ready, one for the bus and two for school/nursery. I do not see how I am going to manage to take three children to a meeting point and then go to my local school afterwards, what if the bus is late or another problem arises?
Unpredictable behaviour is something that parents with special needs children deal with daily, but to encourage an un-cooperative child to walk to a meeting point is something I do not feel I can not cope with, even if this is a ten minute walk, which the Council seem to think it would be, this could stretch for thirty minutes of rebellion from three young children.
Mornings would become a complete nightmare of unhappiness for all of the family (I haven't even mentioned the after school pick up!!)
We have had to fight for everything in this Borough and all because our son has special needs. For our
special children, please reverse this decision..

From The Romford Recorder
Disability services and ice rink the hot topics at Havering Ask the Cabinet
Ian Weinfass, Reporter

Cabinet members faced residents angry about changes to disabled bus services and the temporary closure of Romford Ice Arena at the Ask the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (July 13).
The meeting started with parents, many from the Positive Parents forum, asking councillors about changes to transport to school for disabled children.
Steven Bennett said: “Can the council tell us how they plan to ensure the safety of our children to get to school if they are forced to use cluster points? How many children need to be injured on their way to a cluster point?”
Cabinet member for children Paul Rochford replied:
“When children are picked up on the bus these buses are safe and secure and will continue to be so.”
He added that children will be assessed on their individual needs as to whether they are able to walk. “The assessment will be done by an independent charity that’s specialises in autism and a range of disabilities.”
Another member of Positive Parents asked later:
“Much has been made about the Your Council, Your Say survey and how it shapes your budget. Do you think it was wise to leave out the disabled community from the survey?”
Cllr White said he would be speaking to his head of communications about why there were no questions at all regarding disability services in the survey. He explained that the survey was not carried out as a statutory requirement.
Children who use the Romford Ice Arena were present in large numbers as many questions were put to the cabinet about the future of ice skating and the need for a temporary rink.
Cllr White told residents that he could not name the developer who the council is working with due to reasons of commercial confidentiality.
Vanessa Riley, from the International Skating Union, received a large round of applause when she said: “I’ve been working with the club at Romford and with the Vice President of the International Skating Union. If they don’t get a temporary ice rink it will be a disaster for all the children (training there). Five years or two years is too long to be without an ice rink.”
